Carla Rosa is a Colorado State University bred variety named after the late Carla Worley of Worley Family Farms, Monte Vista, Colorado.

Carla was a leader in the San Luis Valley seed potato industry. She served on national and local boards not only for seed potato production, but also for water management, 4-H and many other community groups. She was instrumental in the start-up and operation of one of the first on-farm tissue culture lab and greenhouse operations in the San Luis Valley, producing disease-free plantlets and mini-tubers.
